Quantitative Animal Scientist

An exciting new opportunity has arisen and applications are invited for a quantitative animal scientist to enhance/develop interdisciplinary skills, working with other scientific disciplines within SAC and their partners. The main objective of the post is to explore how livestock species can (biologically) respond to the key challenges we face as a society, including the impact of a changing climate, the need to reduce the environmental footprint of livestock products and increasingly global food security.

We are looking for a person with strong quantitative skills to work in a team of animal scientists and link across other disciplines including agricultural system scientists, crops and soil scientists/modellers and economic and social scientists. Ability to work independently and pro-actively will be necessary so we are seeking a highly motivated individual with good organisational abilities and interpersonal skills. As the post is for 1 year duration in the first instance this may present a unique sabbatical/short term career option for scientists looking to broaden their skill sets.

The successful applicant will ideally have an MSc/PhD in a quantitative subject related to animal (livestock) or a related field (i.e. plant or animal breeding, or statistics or mathematics). Knowledge of the livestock production systems is highly desirable but not essential. A background in analysing large datasets, biological statistics and modelling is considered to be of additional value.

Closing Date: 2 May 2012
