Applications are invited for a researcher in a new industry led project to harness mid infrared spectral data, collected as part of routine milk recording of dairy cows to improve the human health attributes of dairy products and the efficiency by which they are produced.

We are looking for a person with strong quantitative and programming skills to work in a team of animal breeders that will analyse large data sets from major UK milk producers and the wider supply chain. Ability to work independently and pro-actively to strict deadlines for planned milestones in the project will be necessary so we are seeking a highly motivated individual with good organisational abilities.

The successful applicant will ideally have an MSc/PhD in animal breeding or a related field (i.e. plant breeding, human genetics or statistical genetics or mathematics). Knowledge of the dairy sector is desirable but not essential. A background in handling and analysing large datasets and experience in quantitative statistical and genetic analyses is considered to be of additional value.
