The "Monsanto" company is seeking a highly motivated individual with the ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary soybean breeding team.
Description:
The breeder's primary responsibility is to conduct a soybean variety development breeding program utilizing the latest in breeding technologies to develop superior soy products for markets in the central United States. The selected individual will interact with breeding technology, trait integration, trait development, and commercial organizations. The incumbent will oversee the administration of a breeding research program, and assist in the recruiting, training, development, and retention of personnel, budget management, and care and maintenance of company assets. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a breeding program that will lead to the development of superior commercial varieties.
- Develop a thorough knowledge of Monsanto soybean germplasm and commercial products.
- Recruit, train, develop and retain research support personnel.
- Ensure that the research team is trained and compliant with Monsanto ESH safety policies to ensure safe operations of the research program.
- Budget management.
Required skills/experience:
- PhD in plant breeding and genetics or related field of study.
- Strong background in plant breeding, genetics, statistics, and molecular technologies.
- Proficiency with database applications, data analysis, and spreadsheet software.
- Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and innovative.
- Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated ability to write and speak in English fluently.
- PhD in plant breeding and genetics or related field with 2 to 3 year experience in a plant breeding program.
- Proven track record in a commercial breeding program, strong knowledge of modern technical approaches to germplasm improvement.
- Familiarity with applications of molecular marker technologies to applied plant breeding.
- Excellent leadership and people skills, effective verbal communication, and ability to thrive in a team-based work environment.
- Record of innovation and process improvement in an applied breeding program.
