The "Monsanto" company is seeking highly a motivated individual to become an integral member of a multidisciplinary breeding team.
Description:
The Discovery Breeder is responsible for the development of improved inbred lines with a focus on improved disease tolerance. Additional responsibilities include: planning and visiting winter nurseries as well as the recruitment, training, development and retention of personnel, budget management, care and maintenance of company assets.
This position will directly interact with line development breeding, breeding technology, trait development, and commercial organizations serving as a key member of the technology development pipeline. This role offers the opportunity to work with the world's largest global germplasm pool. They will also have the opportunity to incorporate the latest genomic and marker-assisted breeding tools to develop superior inbred lines.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee a breeding program that will lead to the development of improved varieties tolerant to major corn diseases.
- Develop a thorough knowledge of the product varieties in the region in order to provide input on the product development process.
- Ensure that all USDA regulatory and compliance protocols are followed.
- Ensure that the research team is trained and compliant with the Monsanto ESH safety policies to ensure safe operations of the research program.
- Budget management.
- Recruitment, training, development and retention of research support personnel.
- PhD in Plant Breeding or related field of study.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in applied plant breeding, field plot techniques and equipment, statistical analysis and QTL mapping.
- Experience working with database applications, spreadsheet software, experimental design and statistics.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience in plant pathology.
