EU Agriculture and Budget Reform Policy Officer

WWF, the global conservation organization, is looking to fill a 15 month (October 2011 – December 2012) full time position for its European Policy Office (WWF EPO) in Brussels to work as EU agriculture and budget reform policy officer.
Major functions:
- Major functions will be in the following areas
- Analysis and interpretation of legislative proposals and political reactions
- Development of strategies and blueprints for public affairs and media work in selected Member States
- Building relationships with representatives of Brussels-based political institutions
- Representing and speaking for WWF in external fora and meetings
- Coordination of the WWF network and the NGO community in Brussels
- At least 5 years of substantial professional experience with environmental and agricultural issues
- Professional background in agricultural economics, natural resource conservation, development and the economics of ecosystems and biodiversity
- Proven experience as an effective spokesperson and successful public affairs background preferably with European institutions
- Experience in designing, conducting and managing network based projects aimed at informing and advancing effective public policy
- Excellent written and oral communications skills. Clear effective writing style
- Ability to develop productive and collaborative relationships both internally and externally
- Ability to think strategically and creatively, juggle multiple priorities, adjust to changing circumstances, organize time efficiently
- Familiarity with a wide range of communication tools and approaches
- Fluent English and ideally either Spanish or French; other languages an advantage
The position report directly to the EU budget reform team leader and the Agriculture officer of WWF Germany and is in permanent contact with the Communication unit, the unit on natural resources and land use and the national WWF offices in Europe.
Required conditions:
The position will be located in Brussels, and will be offered through a German or a Belgian contract. In either case, the successful candidate should be a European citizen and/or have a valid work permit to work in Germany or in Belgium.
