The Centre de Recherche Public, Gabriel Lippmann, a fast growing public establishment for applied scientific research and technology transfer in Luxembourg, has an opening on a permanent contract basis for its internationally recognized “Environment and Agro-biotechnologies” Departement (EVA), for an engineer in phytopathology.
Duties and responsibilities:
The candidate (m/f) will join the crop protection team to work on research and service projects aiming at:
- the production of pest and disease forecast bulletins and the development of environmentally friendly control measures versus pests and diseases in agriculture and viticulture. She/he will support the data acquisition of a team comprising entomologists, phytopathologists and agro-climatologists with the main objective to develop disease and insect pest forecasting systems based on field observations, pathogen and insect identification and characterization, and the retrieval of meteorological data.
- the extension and maintenance of fungal isolate collections and the development of molecular screening tools for fungicide resistant strains, insecticide resistant pests as well as viruses.
The applicant must show willingness to work outside in the field to conduct agronomic field trials including the monitoring of insects and fungal pathogens during the cropping season, as well as to be motivated to conduct molecular analyses and work with fungal cultures.
Qualifications:
- Diploma of engineer/master in agronomy “bioengineer” (or equivalent) with preferentially a specialisation/experience in phytopathology.
- Expertise in molecular biology (PCR, real time PCR, sequencing, laboratory bioassays, sequence data analysis) is a prerequisite.
- Experience in fungal culture techniques and virology will be considered as an advantage.
- A driving licence (B) is a prerequisite.
- Fluency in French (administrative official language), as well as sufficient skills in English for scientific exchanges are necessary. Knowledge of Luxembourgish or German (interaction with farmers) is considered as an asset.
- General software skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email, Internet browsers) as well as the willingness to expand software skills are required.
- She/he has to be structured and self-responsible to join a young, diversified environmental research department. The candidate will work with a multidisciplinary international team based both in Luxembourg and Belgium.
